About Body
Our body is our temple, given to us as a gift at birth. Some of the things that this body requires include proper rest, nutritious food, good hygiene, and some form of exercise which supports our physical health and also regulates our vital energies. When our temple is clean and taken care of, then only can we be ready to pray in it. In the same way, when we are in ‘good health’, we are in the best possible bodily state for spiritual practice. A healthy and vigorous body can translate to an active, energetic approach to the inner life.
Responsible treatment of our own body forms a crucial part of a responsible attitude toward life as a whole, in many cases, being the pre-requisite. Responsibility stands as one of the highest spiritual qualities and begins with our own body, extending further to our thoughts, our actions and even our treatment of the environment and nature. To help maximize our spiritual possibilities, we can work to maximize our physical vitality.
Disease, discomfort, and disorder are the ways our body communicates to us. Illness presents an opportunity to reassess our situation, our goals, our choices, understanding that something was not working the way it naturally should have. Our role here is to listen to our body and make changes in our thoughts, energies, and actions, and therefore our life, accordingly.
The body offers a fertile arena for inner work. At all ages, instinctive intuition of what our body really needs challenges our perceptions and pre-conditioned notions. Awareness of physical sensations, posture, gestures, facial expressions, tone of voice, movement, breathing, eating, and all our myriad physical activities grounds us in the present moment, reveals truths about ourselves, and provides a necessary platform for deeper spirituality. When we accord our bodies the love and respect it is due, it repays us with well-being, energy, and a solid home for building our soul.
One of the ways The Third Eye promotes proper health in our bodies is through the regular practice of Yoga which benefits not only body but also the mind. All our yoga classes integrate the spiritual aspect of yoga with the physical practice as yoga is inherently a deeply spiritual activity.
