Smoking is a habit that was created when you repeatedly associated positive emotions or feelings with the act of smoking. The subconscious mind picked up this programing early on, and therefore it developed into a habit. Sometimes even when we consciously choose to quit, it becomes very challenging to overpower the subconscious mind, which tends to be 6000 times more powerful than the conscious mind that intends to quit. Willpower does work for a few, but in general, only 2% of the population can successfully use willpower to overcome smoking.
Issues that tend to get uncovered through a smoking cessation program include low self-esteem, insecurity, and a feeling of emptiness or void that you may not even be aware of which is at play.
