Breathing is essential for the energy of life, but deep and conscious breathing is essential for healthy life. As you read this, just take a moment to notice: is proper oxygen reaching your lungs? You might find yourself taking a deep breath right now. When you are involved in an effortless activity such as reading, you are not aware of your weak and shallow breathing pattern. You can just imagine what happens when you are under stress, pressure and/or angry.
When we are under any of the afore-mentioned conditions, physical tension builds up in our body and our breathing pattern changes tremendously. This forces us to breathe shorter, sharper, and shallower, all of which can cause fatigue, emotional tension, unclear and vague thinking and even health issues such as panic attacks, indigestion, unbalanced body function and inadequate blood circulation. Such conditions eventually lead to physical disease in the body.
The most significant factor in attaining good health is how well you breathe. The rate, depth and quality of your breathing can increase your energy levels, calm your nerves, clear your mind, enhance your health and even eliminate toxins that subsequently cause pain. Focusing on breathing correctly is a quick and efficient stress relief tool. In fact, this is one of the most potent tools for stress management because your breathing patterns control your emotions, and you can control your breathing.
